3 injured in drive-by shooting at community center in Blue Island

BLUE ISLAND, Ill. — An investigation is underway in the South Suburbs on Friday afternoon after a drive-by shooting at a community center.

The shooting unfolded around 3:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Blue Island Worship & Community Center in the 2900 block of West 127th Street, according to Blue Island city officials.

Officers say at the time of the shooting, the community center had been rented out for repast service.

Police believe that multiple gunmen opened fire on the facility, but a person inside the building who had a concealed carry permit then returned fire.

Officers say one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition and two others suffered minor injuries.
