54-year-old man facing larceny charges after alleged vehicle break-ins in Wytheville

WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WFXR)– Wytheville Police reports a 54-year-old man is facing a felony larceny charge after allegedly breaking into vehicles and stealing personal items.

According to the police department, an officer was dispatched at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 21 on the first of three reports from the Crockett Addition neighborhood area about someone allegedly entering a vehicle and stealing items from their cars. Reports stated that the alleged items stolen included purses, credit cards, identification cards, and cash.

The officer was shown footage from one of the victim’s security cameras at their residence, giving the officer a description of the suspect.

While patrolling the area, the officer saw a person who matched the description of the suspect he saw on the security footage.

With assistance from the Wytheville Police Department Detective Division, the police department initiated an investigation into these reports. After investigating, law enforcement issued a search warrant on the 800 block of North 18th Street in Wytheville where police reported several alleged items were seized for evidence.

Sheriff looking for wanted man in abduction and strangulation investigation

As a result of the investigation, 54-year-old Chebon Lee Grayson from Glen Burnie, MD, was arrested. He was charged with:

  • Two Counts Misdemeanor Petit Larceny

  • Two Counts Felony Credit Card Larceny

  • Misdemeanor Interfere with Property Rights of Another

  • Misdemeanor Falso Identity to Law Enforcement Officer

  • Three Counts Misdemeanor Enter a Vehicle to Commit a Crime

Grayson is currently being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail on a $5,000 secured bond.

Police recommend residents around Fulton Street and Crockett Edition to check their vehicles for any missing items.

This remains an ongoing investigation and police expect more charges to follow. WFXR News will update this story as further information is released.
