7 people rescued from Boyd Lake after high winds blow in

DENVER (KDVR) — Seven people were rescued from Boyd Lake late Friday evening after high winds caused issues for people on the water.

Loveland Fire Rescue Authority said it responded to the lake around 9:27 p.m. for a paddleboarder in distress due to high winds.

First responders were then made aware that multiple other people were in trouble in the water. Some had capsized their paddleboards or other watercraft while others were unable to make it back to shore on their boards.

The seven people were brought to the marina by rescue boats and evaluated by medics.

Everyone reported missing in the water was located and was safe, LFRA said.

LFRA said multiple other agencies were involved including Berthoud Fire Protection, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, Thompson Valley EMS and Boyd Lake State Park Rangers.

This is not the first time that first responders in the state have had to rescue multiple people on the water after high winds caused issues.

In early June, over a dozen paddleboarders and kayakers were rescued from Standley Lake, while two people had to be rescued at Horsetooth Reservoir after strong winds caused several groups of recreators to get separated.
