New 72-unit apartment complex coming to Greeneville

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – Greeneville has seen an increase in population growth, and as more people move to the region, the town is working to develop a new apartment complex that will provide more rental homes, something city officials said Greeneville needs.

“It’s a 72-unit complex, there’s three buildings and those are spread out along the property,” said Christina Potts, spokesperson for the Town of Greeneville. “Those will each have 24 units in them, eight units on each floor, so there’s three stories each.”

Potts told News Channel 11 that the site plan for the new complex has been approved by the Greeneville Planning Commission, but a few steps still need to be taken before construction can begin.

“The next steps are to get the the storm water [drains] approved and also to have the fire department come in and make sure that the access is good,” said Potts. “To make sure that they can get in and service those units if they need to.”

The new complex called “Fontana Point” is set to be built behind a new shopping center and Texas Roadhouse on Highway 11E near Harlan Street. Potts said the new developments won’t go without the inevitable spike in traffic around the area.

“The city council just approved a traffic signal to go at Serral Drive on 11E, which is going to help with the Texas Roadhouse, Panda Express, and some of those other businesses,” said Potts. “That will start right away because we would like to have that in place before Texas Roadhouse opens in October.”

Potts said an exact date as to when construction will start on the apartment complex has not been determined, but they hope to begin this year.
