Aerial footage shows aftermath of nearly 125-acre fire in Hillsborough County

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — WFLA’s Eagle 8 is capturing aerial footage of the aftermath of a more than 100-acre fire that overtook part of Hillsborough County on Thursday afternoon.

What was only meant to be a prescribed burn at the Upper Tampa Bay Conservation Park turned into an approximately 100-125-acre fire due to an unexpected wind shift, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

Why is there smoke in the Tampa area?

In total, 16 fire units worked on the scene alongside the Florida Forest Service to contain the blaze.

The photos below were captured during the fire at around 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Thankfully, the fire did not result in any injuries or evacuations.

Fire rescue said prescribed burns are commonly used to protect the health of a forest.
