Albino groundhog spotted in Rutherford County

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — An albino groundhog was recently seen in Rutherford County.

The creature was spotted by a ranger at the Stones River National Battlefield on Old Nashville Highway.

The battlefield posted photos of the groundhog on social media to explain the woodchucks are an important part of their ecosystem and many can be found throughout the park.

Groundhogs can dig deep and extensive burrow systems that can destabilize the earthworks and cause them to partially collapse, according to the park.
