Amazon, including Park City facility, cutting plastic use by 95%

PARK CITY, Kan. (KSNW) – Amazon announced that they’re switching from plastic air pillow packaging to recycled paper filler.

The air pillow packaging is meant to protect items during shipping. The company said that data shows paper filler keeps orders safer compared to plastic and makes it easier for customers to recycle.

Local Amazon workers at the Park City facility believe the company’s move toward sustainability is easier for both customers and employees.

“It is easier to maintain and use. It’s a lot easier to handle. It’s quick and efficient. Just putting it right there in the box. It’s a pre-cut sheet of paper that comes in, and they can go right about their day,” said Dillon Cole, outbound senior operations manager at Amazon.

County to host free disposal of household hazardous waste

“Due to the fact that they don’t have to sort through the plastic and the cardboard, it will make their life easier. I think the customers will be satisfied with it,” said Ekebo Ukoefreso, the process assistant at ICT2.

The company started the process last October now the change has gone nationwide, including at the Park City location. Amazon noted that 95% of its air pillow packaging in the region has already been removed and it hopes to eliminate the rest before 2025.
