Amazon Offers 4K Video for Prime Members

Own a 4K TV but have nothing sharp enough to make the most of it? If you're an Amazon Prime member, you're in luck. The company announced today (Dec. 9) that it is making 4K content available to Prime members at no additional cost.

Prime's 4K video lineup includes movies such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hitch and Funny Girl, as well as TV shows such as Orphan Black and the company's Amazon Original titles. To view the high-res content, you'll have to use the Amazon Instant Video app on compatible Ultra HD Smart TVs.

Amazon is also offering the Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek LIVE! concert in the super sharp resolution, but you don't have to be a Prime member to watch that. Those who aren't Prime members can still watch 4K movies such as Captain Philips, The Monuments Men and Godzilla by paying individually for the films, some of which start at $20.

An Amazon Prime membership costs $99 a year, and gives subscribers free 2-day shipping on all orders and access to a selection of Prime Instant Videos. The company's 4K video offerings follow in the footsteps of Netflix, which began offering shows like House of Cards and Breaking Bad in 4K earlier this year.
