American Cancer Society hosts community event dedicated to fighting cancer in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR)– The American Cancer Society hosted the ‘Relay for Life of Greater Lynchburg,’ a community event dedicated to fighting cancer and supporting those affected by it on Friday, June 21.

The event provided an opportunity for the community to come together, show support, and contribute to the American Cancer Society’s mission of funding research for all types of cancer. It featured local food trucks, music, and activities for kids, making it a fun and meaningful event for the whole family.

“Relay For Life is a chance to be part of something bigger than ourselves,” said Kevin Mays; Relay For Life Event Co-Chair. “It’s a day to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has touched us all. The funds raised are crucial for improving the lives of people with cancer and their families through advocacy, research, and patient support.”

Relay For Life also hosted a luminaria event, where guests had the opportunity to purchase a luminaria in memory or in honor of a loved one. This was a larger part of a luminaria ceremony which serves as a reminder of the impact cancer has on our lives and a powerful way to honor those affected by the disease.
