'America's Most Wanted' fugitive apprehended in Hagerstown murder

A Hagerstown murder suspect from a 2022 shooting case highlighted on "America's Most Wanted" earlier this year has been apprehended in North Carolina, according to Hagerstown Police.

Taejon Gill was arrested in Charlotte, N.C., on June 13 on a warrant for the Oct. 18, 2022, shooting death of Sharron Akraim Clark, 45, on Murph Avenue, according to a Hagerstown Police announcement on Tuesday.

Gill, who was 20 at the time of the shooting, is awaiting extradition to Maryland.

Hagerstown Police said in the news release they will not be releasing information about the events leading to Gill's arrest "in order to protect certain investigative details."

Local police thanked the Maryland State Apprehension Team, the Capital Area Regional Task Force and the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force for help with the case.

The department also extends "a special thank you to the HPD detectives that worked on this case," the release states. "They tirelessly investigated and worked relentlessly ..."

"America's Most Wanted" featured the Clark murder case on Feb. 19, in an attempt to help Hagerstown Police's efforts to get tips about Gill's whereabouts.

What we know about Sharron Clark's murder

Hagerstown Police were in the Jonathan Street area around 8 p.m. on Oct. 18, 2022, when they heard the sounds of gunshots, according to an earlier Herald-Mail story.

As the officers tried to figure out where the sound came from, the Washington County 911 center received a 911 call about a gunshot victim nearby in the first block of Murph Avenue.

Within moments, officers found Clark, a Hagerstown resident who had multiple gunshot wounds. Police began providing first aid and continued measures to try to save Clark's life until emergency medical services personnel arrived. EMS took Clark to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The investigation involved the Western Maryland Regional Crime Lab, whose personnel arrived at the scene to collect evidence.

Lt. Rebecca Fetchu, spokesperson for Hagerstown Police, said previously that police "pretty quickly" had a suspect in Gill, but could not find him. Gill's mother identified her son as the shooter, Fetchu has said.

His mother had been in a relationship with Clark, but Fetchu didn't know if they were still in a relationship at the time of the shooting.

Hagerstown Police said earlier this year they do not know the motive for the shooting.
