Another arrest made Friday in Warrick County official circles

There's been another arrest in Warrick County official circles.

Health Department Administrator Marlin Weisheit, 72, of Boonville, faces charges of official misconduct, a Level 6 felony; and two misdemeanor counts of conversion, according to Indiana State Police.

Weisheit, a Democrat, is a former elected Warrick County commissioner and is the former police chief of the town of Chandler. His wife, Shannon Weisheit, is a former Warrick County clerk.

An Indiana State Police statement issued just before 4 p.m. Friday laid out a timeline of sorts for Marlin Weisheit's arrest.

On December 26, 2023, ISP stated, the Warrick County Commissioners announced Weisheit would be the Warrick County Health Department's interim administrator.

"Four days prior, a contract between the Warrick County Commissioners and Weisheit was signed agreeing Weisheit is an independent contractor and is not a representative of Warrick County or a county employee," state police said. "Indiana law states the health officer for Warrick County is responsible for appointing the Administrator of the Health Department."

The Warrick County Health Department consented to hire Weisheit on April 16, 2024, after which the county commissioners approved his appointment, ISP stated. Weisheit’s first day of employment with the Warrick County Health Department — as a county employee, ISP noted — was April 23.

"According to (ISP Sergeant/Detective Brock) Werne, the claims for hours worked by Weisheit between January 2 and February 29, 2024, were paid in the amount of $9,600 from the health department funds without the knowledge or approval of the health administrator," state police said.

"Between April 26 and May 2, Weisheit allegedly used the health administrator’s stamp without his approval or authority to transfer funds within the health department’s budget to pay a lease agreement with Liberty Concepts, INC, Boonville. The investigation revealed the health administrator would not authorize payments to Liberty from the health department due to the contract being between the commissioners and Liberty Concepts, INC."

Perry County Special Prosecutor Samantha Hurst filed the charges against Weisheit.  He was released after posting bond.

Warrick County Commissioners Dan Saylor and Bob Johnson were defeated in the May 7 Republican primary election after having become ensnared in an Indiana State Police investigation into Warrick County Animal Control.

Editor's note: This story has been changed to reflect a corrected arrest warrant stating the conversion charges are misdemeanors. The update was made Saturday, June 22.
