'Girlboss' canceled after one season
Netflix series Girlboss will not be returning for a second season. Variety reports Sophia Amoruso, who wrote the book on which the series was based, shared the news via an Instagram story this weekend.
“So that Netflix series about my life got canceled,” Amoruso said. “While I’m proud of the work we did, I’m looking forward to controlling my narrative from here on out. It was a good show, and I was privileged to work with incredible talent, but living my life as a caricature was hard even if only for two months. Yes, I can be difficult. No, I’m not a dick. No, someone named Shane never cheated on me. It will be nice to someday tell the story of what’s happened in the last few years. Ppl read the headline, not the correction, I’ve learned.”
Amoruso founded Nasty Gal, a clothing retailer, in 2006, and documented her professional rise in 2014 memoir #GIRLBOSS. Netflix adapted the book into a comedy starring Britt Robertson as the lead, Amoruso-based character.
Upon its premiere this past April, Girlboss received mixed reviews: In his B review, EW’s Chancellor Agard called it a “frustrating but occasionally fun show that might be too enamored with its subject.” The show has a 32 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
