Apple Valley man dies in motorcycle crash

A 46-year-old Apple Valley man died in an motorcycle crash along Bear Valley Road early Friday, officials said.

The crash took place just before 1 a.m. at Bear Valley and Pasco roads, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

The rider was on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle headed west on Bear Valley Road on just prior to the wreck, authorities said.

"The motorcycle made a left, southbound turn off the dirt shoulder onto Outer Bear Valley South, when (the rider) lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to flip, and the driver was ejected," according to sheriff's department statement.

Despite wearing a helmet, the rider suffered major head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The Sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team shut down the intersection for about four hours while they collected evidence, interviewed witnesses and took measurements. An investigation was ongoing.

The victim's identity was not released pending notification of family by coroner's officials.
