Arkansas State Police agents arrest former Wheatley PD chief marshal

WHEATLEY, Ark. – State investigators said they arrested a former east Arkansas police chief marshal Monday afternoon facing two charges.

Arkansas State Police officials said 25-year-old Jacob Gammel was arrested at his home in Wheatley by agents with the ASP Criminal Investigation Division.

Gammel was previously chief marshal with the Wheatley Police Department. According to the Arkansas Municipal League, Wheatley is a small town in St. Francis County with a population of 297.

According to WREG-TV, St. Francis County Sheriff Bobby May said Gammel is accused of accepting money from a convenience store owner on a monthly basis in exchange for protection involving gaming machines at the store.

State investigators said Gammel is facing counts of felony perjury and theft of property.

He was booked into the St. Francis County Detention and Dispatch Center shortly after noon on Monday.
