Arrests made in Ashtabula shootings

Jun. 21—ASHTABULA — Three arrests were made in the last several days following separate shooting incidents in the city, according to a press release from Ashtabula Police Department Detective Bureau Division Commander Mike Palinkas.

Javon Singletary, 18, of Ashtabula, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after an investigation into gunfire that struck two homes in the 800 block of West 58th Street, Palinkas said.

Singletary was arrested at a nearby residence and was arraigned Thursday on five charges including, felonious assault, two counts of improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation and tampering with evidence.

A 16-year-old male who allegedly returned fire has also been charged in the case.

A second case of gunfire was reported in the 5900 block of Adams Avenue, where police found evidence that several shots had been fired into a residence.

"During the subsequent investigation it was determined that Brian Poole Jr. , 21, of Wickliffe had engaged in a verbal altercation with the occupants of the Adams Avenue address. As a result of the argument, Poole Jr. allegedly discharged a firearm several times at the occupants and then fled," Palinkas said.

Poole taken into custody at a Regent Road address by the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, according to Palinkas and the Wickliffe Police Department.

Palinkas said Poole is in the Ashtabula City Jail where he is being held on eight counts of felonious assault, improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation and tampering with evidence," Palinkas said.

No one was struck in either shooting, police said.
