The Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith has apologised for swearing while appearing on The One Show.

Leith, who has judged the Channel 4 cooking show since its move from the BBC in 2017, was appearing on the chat show to promote her new ITV cookery programme, Prue Leith’s Cotswolds Kitchen.

Prue jokingly told One Show hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp that she was "pissed off" with her husband John Playfair – who appears on the show – for stealing the limelight.

"Now one of the things that's new on this programme is a brand-new celebrity, it's your husband, John," Alex said, to which Prue replied: "I know, I'm frankly pissed off about it."

"Well, Prue Leith, you can't say that on The One Show! It's a family show!" Alex replied.

Prue apologised for the strong language, adding: "I'm sorry. I'm very unhappy about it because he has turned out to be an absolute star.

"I mean, I thought I was being really kind. I thought, well because it's at home and in our house, the least I can do is let him be in it or ask him if he’d like to be in it."

Describing John as "an absolute natural" in front of the camera, Prue continued: "I keep wanting to say, I’m supposed to be the telly star around here.

"I can see, if we ever get a second series, it'll be John Playfair's Cotswold Kitchen and I'll get a walk-on part."

"It's nice though – it's fun to do it together!" Alex added, to which Prue replied: "He's very good at it."

Prue Leith's Cotswold Kitchen airs on Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX. The One Show airs on weeknights at 7pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
