Authorities arrested a Baton Rouge man accused of choking a woman in his car, then shoplifting from a gas station on U.S. 90, Waveland Police said.

Manch Stanley Cadwallader III, 31, faces charges of shoplifting and aggravated domestic violence.

Police responded about 10:43 p.m. Thursday to the Clark’s Exxon on Highway 90 in response to a shoplifting, a news release said.

Police found Cadwallader in a white Jeep attempting to flee the scene, according to the release.

Officers stopped Cadwallader, who they said was “sweating profusely.” He could not answer officers’ questions, police said. They also detained a woman at the scene.

Police said the woman was “visibly upset” and did not speak to officers’ in Cadwallader’s presence.

But once alone, according to police, the woman told officers that Cadwallader choked her, entered the store, then returned to find the woman awake and told her to drive but grew angry and choked her again.

Police said the woman had marks on her neck and her ear was bleeding from a missing earring. Authorities also said the woman had signs of bruising. She was transported to a hospital.

Cadwallader was transported to the Hancock County jail.
