Baton Rouge man arrested, faces DWI, vehicular homicide charges after car crash leaves 1 dead

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested a man in connection to a deadly car crash in March 2023.

Carlos Anderson, 48, of Baton Rouge, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless operation of a vehicle, vehicle turning left at intersection, no seat belt and security required.

According to an affidavit, a major traffic crash occurred on Saturday, March 18, 2023, in the 7600 block of Perkins Road in Baton Rouge. Anderson’s Chevy Equinox and a Yamaha motorcycle were involved in the wreck.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Anderson was heading west on Perkins Road when he turned left in front of the motorcycle, according to the affidavit. The driver of the motorcycle died as a result of the collision. Anderson was transported to a local hospital for potential injuries.

The affidavit stated that the investigating officer “believed Anderson was impaired at the time of the crash” during his investigation.

Blood was taken from Anderson, and results showed amphetamine and methamphetamine were in his system at the time of the crash, according to the affidavit. Detectives also learned that Anderson was not wearing his seatbelt and didn’t have a valid ID. The vehicle was not insured.
