New Baton Rouge summer camp teaches students about clean energy, sustainability
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Southern University is launching the EMACE-Inspires Summer Youth Camp.
EMACE stands for Energizing Minds through Advanced Clean Energy Education. The week-long camp will be from June 24 through June 28 and all the spots have been filled.
Fareed Dawan, an associate professor and director of EMACE, said he is hoping to offer the camp every year. He said the camp is an innovative program designed to ignite interest in clean energy and sustainability among middle and high school students, giving them hands-on activities that will empower the next generation of STEM leaders.
“We have water purification through sustainable materials. We’re looking at solar cells and how to power cars and homes. We’re also looking at carbon capture sequestration and also wind turbine technology,” said Dawan.
