Mar. 13—The first phase of construction for the new Stillwater High School is fast approaching.

The Stillwater Public Schools Board of Education voted Tuesday to award bid packages for the demolition of the former Cimarron Plaza.

The first phases include the demolition of Cimarron Plaza, public infrastructure improvements and an electrical switchgear (power supply protection).

Bid packages for the demolition on the buildings in the plaza was awarded to MK Excavation at a bid of $686,000; the electrical switchgear was awarded to Colburn Electric at a bid of $349,800; and site utilities was awarded to D. Owen Construction at a bid of $274,500.

The bids are within budgeted allowances, said SPS Assistant Superintendent of Operations Bo Gamble, who is spearheading the project.

The cost is estimated at $66,895,475, which is tracking below the approved SPS construction budget of $67,632,000.

The Board also voted to assign bids to CMSWillowbrook for the construction of early packages for the SPS Bond 2023 High School Phase 1.

CMSWillowbrook Vice President of Operations Angelo Bradford attended Tuesday's meeting, and he thanked the Board for allowing CMSWillowbrook the opportunity to build the new high school.

Gamble said map amendment and rezoning documentation has been submitted, with an anticipated date of completion on April 1.
