FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A big rig went up an embankment on a Highway in Fresno County on Friday after the driver tried to avoid some pipes that were in the roadway, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP said an F-250 carrying metal pipes that were not properly secured was traveling northbound on Highway 99 approaching Highway 180. The pipes spilled onto the southbound lanes.

According to CHP, the big rig was traveling southbound on Highway 99. The driver tried to avoid hitting the pipes and went up the embankment becoming disabled.

CHP says some fuel was spilled from the truck. They say due to the fast actions of CHP officers, the spill was contained before hitting a water drain and did not become a “hazardous material” incident.

CHP says they are working with service crews to reopen lanes on Highway 99.
