2nd body found in Tempe Town Lake within week; case investigated as suicide

Tempe police recovered a body from Tempe Town Lake and closed the surrounding area for investigation on Friday morning. This was the second body found in the lake within the week.

Police received a call about a body found in the lake around 5 a.m. near Rio Salado Parkway and Mill Avenue.

Officers and first responders removed the man's body from the water but did not release his identity. Police later announced the drowning was being investigated as a suicide.

This discovery comes after officials found the body of 47-year-old Michael Reyes in the water on Tuesday morning.

Witnesses reported seeing Reyes swimming about two-thirds of the way across the lake before disappearing on Monday night.

Officials said it was unclear why Reyes went into the lake.
