The Boy Scouts of America Just Changed Its Name & We Already Know It’s Going to Spark Serious Backlash

The group formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America is making history. It announced today that it will officially be “Scouting America” starting in February 2025 on the organization’s 115th anniversary.

“In the next 100 years we want any youth in America to feel very, very welcome to come into our programs,” CEO Roger Krone said today.

“Though our name will be new, our mission remains unchanged: We are committed to teaching young people to be Prepared. For Life,” he also said in a statement. “This will be a simple but very important evolution as we seek to ensure that everyone feels welcome in Scouting.”

Over the last decade, the organization has made great strides in the matter of inclusivity, allowing gay youth in 2013, ending a ban on gay leadership in 2015, and welcoming girls in 2018. And just as those changes were met with anger, we can already hear the bigots rolling up their sleeves, clutching their pearls, and getting ready to protest a change that will hopefully make children of all genders feel like they too can “learn meaningful life skills and have fun, educational experiences, foster their growth and future outcomes as leaders, and be prepared for life.” (Happy children? The horror!)

Hell, the misogynistic peanut gallery is already going off on X (formerly Twitter).

“UNREAL,” the Libs of TikTok account tweeted. “… Why do they have to ruin everything?”

(Because apparently the institution will never be the same without the word “Boy” in the name…?!*Beats chest*)

“[Boycott] every piece of garbage institution in this country that is doing everything they can to tear down and torch our culture, our traditions, common sense, biology, and our way of life,” said the Insurrection Barbie account.

And the replies to End Wokeness’ tweet about it are exactly what you would expect. “My kids will not be joining.” “Add Boy Scouts to the list of things DEI has ruined.” “This is utter bullsh*t wokeism.” “The Boy Scouts of America were forced to accept girls, but the Girl Scouts of America weren’t forced to accept boys. It’s not about equality. It’s about the Left wanting to destroy male and white spaces because the Left views those groups as their enemy.”

Some may say it’s “simply” a move to increase membership — which is at “historic lows” per Krone — after the organization faced more than 82 thousand lawsuits from people sexually assaulted by scout leaders as children. (But I doubt the internet trolls have much to say about said suits. As long as they are filed against The Boy Scouts of America and not Scouting America, who cares — right?!)

Honestly, whatever the reasoning, and so long as the soon-to-be Scouting America’s leadership gets its act together, we applaud the organization for taking steps to include all youth in their programming.
