BOYNTON BEACH — A 78-year-old Boynton Beach woman has died of injuries sustained this month when a pickup struck her SUV, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

Arlene Sheila Dym was critically injured just after 9:30 p.m. June 7 as she made a U-turn in her 2020 Subaru Crosstrek on the 9700 block of Boynton Beach Boulevard, near State Road 7, PBSO said Friday. At the time, Dym was making a U-turn from the left westbound lane.

At the same time, a 26-year-old Loxahatchee man was driving a 2011 Dodge Ram eastbound on Boynton Beach Boulevard without its lights on, deputies said. As Dym was making the U-turn, the Dodge Ram struck the Subaru on the passenger side.

The impact caused the Subaru to rotate and mount the curb, where it struck a wooden pole with its front-passenger quarter, deputies said. Dym sustained critical injuries in the crash and was taken to Delray Medical Center.

She died Thursday evening at DCH Hospice, deputies said.

The Loxahatchee man, who sustained minor injuries, showed signs of impairment and blood samples were collected for evaluation. Charges are pending against the man after toxicology results are received, deputies said.
