BPD: Teen arrested after stolen vehicle crashes into 2 police cars

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Chautauqua County teen was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly crashed into two Buffalo police vehicles while fleeing in a stolen vehicle, the Buffalo Police Department announced.

Police attempted a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle around 7:45 p.m. on Donovan Drive, and as officers approached, it allegedly reversed into a police vehicle and then drove forward into another before fleeing the scene, according to BPD. The incident caused one officer to jump out of the vehicle’s path to avoid being struck.

The alleged stolen vehicle was tracked by an Erie County Sheriff’s helicopter and eventually stopped before the driver fled on foot, police said. Cassadaga resident Theophine Lubala, 18, was apprehended on the 400 block of Cambridge Avenue.

Lubala was charged with:

  • Two counts of third-degree criminal mischief

  • One count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property

  • One count of second-degree reckless endangerment

  • One count of unauthorized use of a vehicle

  • One count of operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver

  • One count of leaving the scene of an accident
