Cleveland Browns defensive end Lonnie Phelps, a Mount Healthy High School grad, was arrested Wednesday in Key West, Florida, and charged with drunken driving and damaging property after police say he drove his SUV into a restaurant and then refused to cooperate with a law enforcement investigation, according to multiple news outlets.

Phelps reportedly crashed his SUV into the Red Shoe Island Bistro, a high-end restaurant in Key West.

The building’s owner, Joseph Schroeder, estimated the damage from the crash at $300,000, according to reporting from CBS and Cleveland.com.

The 23-year-old Phelps went undrafted out of Kansas before the Browns signed him in May 2023 as an undrafted free agent.

He was waived by the team in August 2023, but re-signed to the Browns practice squad shortly thereafter.

Cleveland signed Phelps to a reserve/future contract in January of this year.
