Cedar City establishes designated areas for July holiday fireworks

CEDAR CITY, Utah (ABC4) — July can be a dangerous month for Utah. The hot and dry weather paired with two holidays celebrated with fireworks, fire pits, and grilling can create a recipe for wildfires.

While Cedar City officials encourage their community to come to the city’s professional fireworks show on July 4 at the Cedar City Airport rather than using personal fireworks, they understand some like lighting their own. To help minimize fire hazards, the city has set up designated areas away from the wildlands to set off fireworks responsibly.

The areas include:

  • Aquatic Center parking lot

  • Bicentennial Softball Complex parking lot

  • Canyon View High School

  • Cedar High School south parking lot

  • Iron Springs Elementary parking lot

  • The closed-off street between the Bicentennial soccer complex parking lots

Anyone who uses the designated zones for fireworks is asked to bring a bucket of water to help safely dispose of used fireworks. Dumpsters will be available at each of the designated areas for proper clean-up.

Fireworks can be set off in Utah between July 2 and July 4 and between July 22 and July 25 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Both July 4 and July 24 have extended fireworks hours until midnight.
