Teen killed, 2 others injured in West Ridge drive-by shooting

CHICAGO — A teen boy is dead and two others are injured after a drive-by shooting in the city’s West Ridge neighborhood on Friday afternoon.

According to Chicago police, the deadly shooting unfolded just before 7 p.m. in the 5600 block of North Rockwell Street.

Officers were called to the area following a report that a person had been shot and when they arrived on the scene, they found the three 16-year-old victims.

Police say the teens were hit by gunfire while they were entering a vehicle in the area.

A witness later told police an individual driving in a black SUV opened fire on the teens before fleeing the scene.

Charges announced in murder of 7-year-old Jai’Mani Amir Rivera

One of the teens suffered a gunshot wound to his back and was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. Authorities later identified the victim as Benicio Gomez.

A second teen suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder and was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The third teen involved was hit in the knee and was transported in fair condition.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and authorities say no arrests have been made.
