Charges filed in Trempealeau County homicide

TREMPEALEAU, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Charges were filed today in connection to a Trempealeau County Homicide. Court documents show 61-year-old Todd Gieck of rural Melrose is facing multiple charges, including first-degree reckless homicide with a dangerous weapon.

According to the criminal complaint on May 15th, a Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Highway 53 near County Road TT. The deputy found a person in the vehicle with significant head trauma and bleeding. He later died at a hospital. The sheriff’s office named 36-year-old Kyle Dahl of Ettrick as the victim. An autopsy later determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound.

During an investigation, deputies learned Dahl’s vehicle was being followed by a different car. Surveillance footage led authorities to identify Gieck as the driver. A known associate of Gieck’s told investigators Gieck told him about “blowing out somebody’s back window”. A shell casing was found near the scene that matched the caliber of a firearm Gieck left with his associate.
