Cheatham County authorities arrest 2 wanted men after suspicious activity call

CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two people — including a career criminal — were taken into custody earlier this month thanks to alert neighbors and the swift actions of Cheatham County law enforcement.

It all began on June 8, when neighbors on Bearwallow Road became suspicious that two men were in the area, possibly stealing a lawnmower. Since there had been thefts there in the past, community members called authorities to investigate.

When the first Cheatham County deputy arrived at the scene, a member of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) already had the two men in custody.

Officials identified the men as 24-year-old Austin Steele, who was wanted out of Sumner County for driving on a suspended license, and 42-year-old Robert Myers, who had a much darker criminal history. The ex-con from White House was wanted on parole violation warrants involving an aggravated domestic assault from 2023 in Cottontown.

“Y’all get your stuff straight, man,” the TWRA officer said in bodycam footage of the incident. “There ain’t nothing to it.”

“I just missed probation, man,” Myers replied. “I ain’t gonna lie, I was on coke bad and I missed probation.”

“I get you, but get your stuff straight, son. You’ll be alright,” the TWRA officer responded.

Court paperwork indicates Myers was initially charged with unlawful imprisonment and strangulation.

Throughout the arrest, the suspects argued they were legally moving someone’s lawnmower and they weren’t doing anything wrong. Authorities continually reminded the men that may have been true, but they both still had outstanding criminal warrants.

“They had a Ring camera and they thought somebody was stealing the lawnmower, so that’s why we got called out there and it just so happens y’all had warrants,” the deputy explained.

Myers has reportedly been transferred to Logan County, Kentucky, where his warrants were active. According to the Tennessee Department of Correction, the White House man had been free on five years probation before this recent arrest.
