Check smoke alarms before you ‘spring forward’

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The American Red Cross encourages everyone to test their smoke alarms as they turn their clocks forward to make sure the devices are working.

With daylight saving time beginning Sunday night, you’ll lose that hour of sleep as we gain an extra hour of daylight in the evening.

American Red Cross officials remind us to change batteries in our smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors as we “spring” forward.

Fire departments, including the Kingston/Forty-Fort Fire Department, can help residents install them in their homes.

“It’s very important. smoke detectors save lives. almost every fatal fire I’ve been at in over 30 years has been because there was no smoke detector,” explained Floyd Youngs the deputy fire chief of the Kingston/Forty-Fort Fire Department.

if you cannot afford to purchase smoke alarms, the Red Cross may be able to help.
