New children's care home given go-ahead
Plans for a small children’s care home in Barnoldby-le-Beck have been approved.
It will be run by Gravity Red Inspires, a residential children’s home provider in North East Lincolnshire and will have a maximum of three children, aged 10 to 17.
Objections by neighbours and Barnoldby-le-Beck Parish Council had raised parking, traffic and anti-social behaviour concerns, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
North East Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee agreed by majority vote to allow it.
Committee member councillor Janet Goodwin, who voted in favour of approval, said: “It’s something that’s really needed in the borough.”
In a planning statement, TP Planning, on behalf of Gravity Red Inspires, said the home will provide "high quality carefully managed care", and added that "it will not have an adverse impact on the neighbourhood or on parking and highways".
However, residents living near the prosed home signalled traffic and parking concerns in objection to the application.
One neighbour described the road the children’s care home will be on as “an unadopted, quiet, cul-de-sac”, with “severely restricted” access because of a narrow, single lane.
The suitability of the location for the children in terms of limited village amenities, and possible anti-social behaviour was also raised.
A Church Lane resident said: “I firmly believe all children need regular interaction with their peers and access to facilities which both stimulate and ensure mental growth. None of which can be found in this remote village.”
This and highway concerns were also cited by the parish council in its objection.
Planning officers recommended approval, with no significant highways impact anticipated. Likewise, Humberside Police’s crime reductions officer did not raise any objections to its proposed use, or location.
