Chinn claims Place 1 Fate council seat with runoff win over Krauss

Jun. 16—Even before the results from the Place 1 Fate City Council runoff were released on Saturday, another new face was going to be on the council with incumbent Heather Buegeler on the sidelines after finishing third in May's voting. The only question was who that face would belong to — Codi Chinn or Cinnamon Krauss?

Chinn, who narrowly missed the required 50% plus one vote threshold needed on May 28 to secure the win in a three-person race, will be that face after besting Krauss by a margin of 835 (56.92%) to 632 (43.08%). Of the 1,467 votes cast in the election, 980 came via early voting and 42 by mail.

Chinn topped all three categories — mail, early and Election Day voting.

During May's municipal election, Chinn finished with with 783 votes (49.8%), followed by Krauss with 396 (25.2%) and Buegeler with 393 votes (25%).

Results released on Saturday are considered unofficial the City Council conducts its canvassing at a special meeting slated for June 24 at 6 p.m. Council member-elect Chinn will be sworn in at the same meeting.
