I-5 reopens with traffic escorts through Grapevine: CHP

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Insterstate 5 through the Grapevine reopened late Friday night with escorts after snow and strong winds forced a brief closure.

I-5 was closed for about an hour and reopened with traffic escorts a little after 10:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP officials advised traffic would be heavy as the road reopened and urged drivers to be patient and stay behind escorting CHP vehicles.

A storm made its way through Kern County on Friday dropping snow in the mountain communities and dropped snow levels to pass levels. Moderate to heavy snowfall has been reported through the Grapevine throughout parts of the day. Temperatures dropped to the low 30s in the Fort Tejon and Gorman areas.
