CHP urges drivers to slow down through Grapevine amid low clouds, patchy fog

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The California Highway Patrol in Fort Tejon is reminding drivers to slow down Thursday morning through the Grapevine along Interstate 5 due to rain and patchy fog.

As of 9:45 a.m. Interstate 5 through the area was open but periods of rain, patchy fog and low clouds can lower visibility at times, CHP said.

Cloudy skies to slowly clear by Thursday afternoon, temperatures in the low 60s across Kern

Officer DC Williams described the weather conditions as “intermittent” as road conditions change throughout the morning. He said conditions are clearer further south in Frazier Park.

In a post on X, CHP said the roadway has excessive amounts of water and can cause vehicles to hydroplane due to excessive speed.

What is hydroplaning and what should you do if it happens while you are driving?

CHP officers are patrolling the area and may begin pacing traffic if conditions worsen.
