City of York changes trash collection ahead of extreme heat next week

YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — The City of York announced that it will be adjusting its trash collection schedule to accommodate the extreme heat.

According to The City of York, next week on Monday, June 24 through Wednesday, June 26, their dedicated trash collectors will begin one hour earlier at 5 a.m. to avoid and extra hour in the heat.

“We know that physical labor, like continuous walking, bending and lifting during extreme heat poses increased risk to outdoor workers,” the City said in a release. “When these conditions are combined, it can often result in heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.”

The City also shared that next Wednesday, June 26, all City collections by Republic Services may begin as early as 5 a.m. Customers must place items out after 5 p.m. the night prior to collection and by 5 a.m. the day of collection.

The collectors will not be returning to collect items placed out after 5 a.m.
