‘Clear the List’ program aims to help Lee County teachers supply their classrooms

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WRBL) — A program that aims to make teachers’ lives a little easier is back for its second year.

Lee County teachers are invited to submit a classroom wish list to the annual “Clear the List” program. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) began this program in 2023. Local schools help organize the wish lists.

The program hopes to keep teachers from spending their own money on their classrooms. LCSO says while state funds cover some classroom supplies, the amount only covers basic necessities.

To help prevent teachers from going out of pocket during the school year, “Clear the List” invites local businesses and community members to donate towards a teacher’s wish list. Participants can either buy an item off a teacher’s list, or donate money directly to the cause.

Over 150 teachers have submitted their wish lists so far. More lists are expected to be submitted through the summer.

You can find the lists at leecountysheriff.org/teachers. Online monetary donations can be submitted at lcsofoundation.org/donate.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is also holding a school supply drive in conjunction with this program from July 15 to 26. More information is to come.
