Columbia man dies from drowning in Lake Murray over the weekend, SC coroner says

A Columbia man died Saturday after drowning in Lake Murray, according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.

Cody Michael Miterko, 27, was the victim, Coroner Margaret Fisher said Monday in a news release.

Miterko was in the water with friends when he went missing, according to the release.

At about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Miterko’s body was recovered from 10 to 15 feet of water, Fisher said. The body was found in an area of Lake Murray near the 500 block of Windmere Drive in Lexington. according to the release.

Information about the distance from where Miterko was last seen to where his body was recovered was not available.

No other injuries were reported.

An autopsy performed Monday confirmed that Miterko’s cause of death was drowning, Fisher said.

Both the coroner’s office and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to investigate the death.
