Columbus heat wave nears its end. What's next in the weather forecast?

Unless you've been living under a very well air-conditioned rock, you've likely noticed the oppressive heat that has settled over Columbus this week.

It's canceled concerts. It's sent thermometers soaring into the upper 90s. It's caused dozens of heat-related illnesses.

If you're tired of walking through hot soup, there's a reprieve coming next week.

But it won't last long.

The high on Monday will dip to 87 degrees before going back up to 94 on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The high will drop to 89 on Wednesday before tumbling to 81 on Thursday, a practically chilly day compared to the past week.

Columbus' current head advisory is set to expire Saturday, June 22, at 8 p.m.

Columbus weather for the week of June 21, 2024

  • Saturday: It'll be mostly sunny and hot with a high near 97. The heat index could go as high as 100.

  • Saturday night: It'll be partly cloudy with a low around 76.

  • Sunday: Showers are likely, and a thunderstorm is possible. Otherwise, it'll be partly sunny with a high near 89. The chance of precipitation is 70%. A tenth to a quarter inch of rain is expected, although more could fall if it storms.

  • Sunday night: There's a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Otherwise, it'll be mostly clear with a low around 67. There's a 20% chance of precipitation.

  • Monday: It'll be sunny with a high near 87.

  • Monday night: It'll be clear with a low around 65.

  • Tuesday: It'll be sunny with a high near 94.

  • Tuesday night: There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Otherwise, it'll be partly cloudy with a low around 72. The chance of precipitation is 40%.

  • Wednesday: There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Otherwise, it'll be partly sunny with a high near 89. The chance of precipitation is 50%.

  • Wednesday night: It'll be partly cloudy with a low around 63.

  • Thursday: It'll be sunny with a high near 81.
