Construction begins on new Urbana firehouse

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Construction of a new firehouse is underway in Urbana.

The Urbana Fire Department posted on its Facebook page that work started on Wednesday to construct a fire station at Bradley and Goodwin Avenues in the city’s 3rd Ward. That work includes the demolition of existing structures at the site.

Firefighters were on hand to help begin the process, spraying water and inspecting the structures.

The new station is being funded through $1.5 million from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity. The funds will also help replace an aging fire station on Philo Road.
