Construction underway on busy Demonbreun Street bikeway

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — One of the busiest bikeways in Davidson County is getting a redesign as the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) noted it’s often blocked by delivery trucks and traffic.

It’s a busy stretch: Demonbreun Street, running from the Music Row Roundabout/Buddy Killen Circle to the interstate/14th Avenue South. Along either side of the street are restaurants, bars, apartments, and hotels.

A survey of the areas businesses found the bike lanes are often blocked by delivery trucks and rideshares, forcing bikers into the main line of traffic.

NDOT said the changes have been years in the making and they’ve worked with the community to come up with the concept.

The redesign includes adding concrete buffers between traffic and the bike lane as well as a landscaped median down the center of Demonbreun Street.

Lane closures went into place on June 10 to install the medians. One lane of traffic is blocked in either direction in the interim.
