Contract awarded for next phase of Lewiston Landing upgrades

Jun. 21—The Village of Lewiston has awarded a contract for the next phase of improvements along Lewiston Landing.

The board of trustees approved a bid worth $425,300 to Sicoli Construction Services of Niagara Falls, with updates coming to the fish cleaning station and replacing the north staircase to the docks below.

Village Engineer Mike Marino said the work includes replacing the fish grinder unit that processes the waste, a new roof, and adding a second ADA assessable bathroom stall.

The north staircase is open all season and gives fishermen access to the boat launch landing. That one is being replaced first based on the funding available.

"We're going to want to replace both staircases eventually," Marino said, planning to reapply for state funding for the south staircase, a pavilion, and other improvements the village could not afford right now.

As this is part of a state Local Waterfront Revitalization Program, the contract has been approved by the Department of State, too. The state awarded grants worth $390,000 for this phase.

Marino hopes that comes in a few weeks and the construction work will be done by this fall.

Ongoing work improving Lewiston Landing as part of this program has gone on since the state approved the village's plans in 1991.
