Cooling centers open in Prince George’s County ahead of extreme heat

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Prince George’s County has announced that it will open multiple cooling centers throughout the area in response to the predicted extreme heat that will take place from Monday, June 17 through June 23.

The county wants to ensure that residents stay safe, especially those at risk of heat-related illnesses.

“The safety and well-being of our residents are our top priorities. As temperatures soar, we encourage everyone to take advantage of these cooling centers, stay hydrated, and check on their neighbors, particularly the elderly and those with health conditions,” said County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks.

Officials also recommend residents to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration and avoid drinks with alcohol, sugar, and caffeine.
