Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has broken her silence on her daughter Phoebe's engagement.

Phoebe, best known for her role as Daphne on Netflix’s Bridgerton, confirmed her engagement to Cameron Fuller last week (May 13), with her new fiancé posting a photo on Instagram to celebrate the announcement.

Sally, who has played Sally Metcalfe on Corrie since 1986, appeared on Loose Women today (May 20) to discuss her career and the news of her daughter’s engagement, with the star saying she was “thrilled” by the announcement.

“My daughter has just got engaged. He's gorgeous, he's such a lovely man. I'm so, so happy. I'm thrilled, it's actually made my year,” she said, before revealing that she would stay away from preparations for the big day.

Phoebe, who has also starred in Dickensian and Fair Play, spoke earlier this year about her relationship with her mother, revealing that they both manage to keep their professional lives separate from their personal matters.

“We actually, weirdly, keep ourselves pretty separate, we are doing such different things in the industry, but we all do follow by example,” she revealed. "But I have always looked up to my mum and how she navigates being on a soap for so many years, and I think my sister [Harriet] does the same with me, hopefully!”

Phoebe has also spoken about her experience in the industry, revealing that there was still a struggle for women to find roles, explaining: “"I probably shouldn't be saying this, but there are still not that many parts going.

“There is such a space for male actors... there are so many of them. And they're all great. They're all very talented young men, they do not stop working, and good for them.

“But you know, when I think about the girls my age... there's way more room for them and there is still not enough room for us. It's a really good time for older women, which is amazing, and there's a lot for these young men, but not a lot for the actresses that I know in my age bracket.”

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
