County commissioners get recommendations for road projects

Jun. 20—The Rockwall County Commissioners Court this week was presented with recommendations of four engineering and design firms to lead services for the four road projects approved in the 2021 County Road Bond Program.

WSB Engineering would lead Project 1, which consists of widening Farm-to-Market Road 549 from Farm-to-Market Road 740 to State Highway 205 from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane roadway for 3.6 miles.

Project 2 was awarded to Bridgefarmer & Associates. The proposed improvements are on Horizon Road/Village Drive from FM 740/Ridge Road to the Dallas, Garland and Northeastern Railroad tracks consisting of the widening of the two-lane roadway to a four-lane roadway with sidewalks and reconstruction of the Village Drive Bridge.

Teague Nall and Perkins received Project 3, which covers just more than half a mile of Farm-to-Market Road 550 from south of SH 205 to north of Meadowcreek. A right turn lane will be added from northbound FM 550 to eastbound SH 205 and curve realignment is needed from Meadowpark to north of Meadowcreek.

Project 4 would go to Kimley-Horn. The improvements on Ben Payne Road from Interstate 30 to State Highway 66 include widening the two-lane roadway to four lanes.
