Couple arrested in felony theft by deception case

Jun. 17—THOMASVILLE- The Thomas County Sheriff's Office and the Atlanta Division of the US Postal Inspection arrested two individuals on Tuesday, June 11, and charged them with felony theft by deception.

According to CID Captain Tim Watkins, Brittany and George Dunn set up several limited liability corporations under various names and were billing out invoices to medical offices.

"They were sending them in for less than $600," Watkins explained. "Most medical offices have a third-party vendor that handles their billing for them, but the amounts were so small so it didn't trigger any questions about the bill."

The third-party vendor would then pay the invoice for its listed items, but never receive any items, as the money would just go into the Dunn's account for their liability companies.

Companies began to file complaints with the US Postal Inspection Services, which is when the Thomas County Sheriff's Office got involved, as they were already on the hunt for Brittany Dunn.

Mrs. Dunn was previously wanted for stealing IDs that she would then use in fitness centers around town and into Jefferson County, officers said.

"We had photos of her," Watkins said. "That gave us her name and then that's how we knew who we were looking for when we talked with the US Postal Inspection Service."

The two agencies began working together, as sending fraudulent invoices through the mail is a federal offense.

The sheriff's office and Postal Inspection Services investigation indicated that the Dunns had stolen more than $75,000 through invoices without providing any goods. Watkins said they are still searching through various other platforms and believe the Dunns in total have conned $100,000 from their victims.

Some of the companies have already begun filing claims with the US Postal Inspection Services, allowing the investigators to backlog how much was taken from each company during a certain period.

Watkins said this was CID's first time working a case like this and he was proud of how the team responded and looks forward to following the case throughout.
