Coweta County fatal fire: Family in house fire that killed 6 identified
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. - A fire in Coweta County on Monday morning resulted in 6 deaths, according to officials.
The fire happened at around 5 a.m. in a home in the 1300 block of Macedonia Road near Roscoe Road in Newnan.
Firefighters could be seen spraying water on the home when SKYFOX 5 flew over it shortly before 8 a.m.
Six dead in Macedonia Road house fire
Oscar and Kayla Bonner, their children and other relatives were inside the residence on Macedonia Road near Newnan when the fire started.
Ryan McMillan and other neighbors raced to help but could only watch as the fire spread.
"I heard what sounded like two gunshots. I heard 'pop, pop' and kind of stopped for a moment, see maybe what that was. I heard 'pop, pop' again, and then I heard a cry for help," McMillan told FOX 5's Deidra Dukes. "Came around the back of the house and noticed the neighbors' house was ablaze."
FOX 5 Atlanta confirmed that six people have died.
According to the Coweta County Fire Department, they were dispatched at 4:48 a.m. and arrived within 10 minutes.
When they arrived, the house was fully involved and five people were outside. They were told that six people were inside and firefighters made entry to try to rescue them.
They were able to pull the people outside within 15 minutes but none of them survived, according to the fire department chief.
The people who were outside were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment, some with serious injuries.
3 adults, 3 children killed in house fire
The deceased are a 74-year-old female and 74-year-old male; 36-year-old female; 13-year-old male; 12-year-old male; and 6-year-old male, according to officials.
However, they have not released the names of the individuals and have not released the names and ages of those who were transported to the hospital.
Coweta County Fire Rescue is still working with the Coweta County Fire Marshal, the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office, and the State Fire Marshal to determine the cause of the fire.
Fire Chief Robby Flanagan said the department would provide support for those firefighters who worked the scene.
"They're human too, their hearts go out to those families, so a lot of our folks have kids, moms and dads, so anytime something like this happens, it's devastating," Chief Flanagan explained.
While investigators work to determine what sparked the blaze, area residents are rallying around the family, who lost everything in the fire.
"I hope the best for the family," neighbor Amy Meadows said. It's really going to take a toll on the community."
The state fire marshal is working with local officials to determine how the fire started.
A GoFundMe campaign was created to help the family rebuild after their tragic loss.
