Crane overturns and kills worker near Ft. Scott, says KHP

FORT SCOTT, Kan. — One person is dead after a crane overturns on a road crew.

First responders were called to the junction of highways 69 and 54 just north of Ft. Scott around 11:15 Friday morning. They said crews were using a crane to install a light pole for the highway off ramp.

Kansas Highway Patrol Master Trooper Branden Bales said they believe one of the riggers failed, causing the vehicle to become high center, and overturn on its passenger side.

“It appears and came to the conclusion that the crane overturned. The boom struck one of the workers and it was a fatal accident,” said Trooper Bales.

The name of the person killed at the scene has not yet been released.
