Crews called to blaze at empty listed building
Emergency crews have been called to a fire at a empty Grade II listed building in Nottingham's city centre.
The city's fire and rescue service was alerted to the blaze at the derelict Guildhall, in South Sherwood Street, at 17:04 BST on Saturday.
Nottinghamshire Police also attended and closed roads surrounding the building while the fire was extinguished.
A spokesperson for the fire service said the blaze was put out and crews left by 18:30 BST.
The roads have since been reopened, police confirmed.
Nottingham's Guildhall, was built in 1888 for municipal officers and courts until the authority left in 2010.
The council had planned to turn the Guildhall into a four-star hotel, and to demolish the neighbouring, former police station - which sits on the same site.
But these plans were paused when the latter was granted Grade II listed status in 2023, which meant the buildings could not be demolished.
They have since remained unused and empty, however, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said in February that a new deal with a buyer was agreed.
The cause of the fire has not been confirmed.
