Norfolk house fire leaves 2 people displaced, 1 pet dead

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two people were displaced after a house fire in Norfolk Saturday morning.

Just before 10 a.m., crews were called to 1246 Whaley Avenue. They arrived on the scene to find large plumes of smoke coming from the attic of the home.

According to Norfolk Fire-Rescue, both people were taken to a local hospital and evaluated for smoke inhalation.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue was able to get the fire by 10:25 a.m. with assistance from the Virginia Beach Fire Department.

Officials said the fire started in a bedroom and spread to the attic. A dead pet was found inside the home by the fire crew.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
